Merchant Banking License Issued to Equity Partners

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has issued a fully fledged Merchant Banking license to Equity Partners Limited (EPL). It is expected that there would be renewed interest from international fund managers and private equity specialists in Bangladesh through EPL's global network. EPL is the meeting point of 26 global partners from New York, London, Dubai, Bangkok, Singapore, Hong Kong and Liechtenstein. EPL is an independent integrated merchant banking, project consulting, portfolio management, brokerage and research company.

The Chairman of Equity Partners Limited is Hon. Andrew Fraser, the immediate past CEO of ING Barings. The Managing Director of Equity Partners is Mark Reinecke, who has over 10 years experience in investment banking in South East Asia. Foreign partners of EPL were extremely impressed with the efficiency and speed with which the SEC issued the license.

It may be mentioned that Equity Partners Securities Limited (EPSL), the brokerage arm of EPL was launched in July this year. Mir Mustafizur Rahman, the former finance Secretary and BOI Chairman is the Chairman of EPSL. Saiful Islam, one of the country's most experienced and prominent investment bankers is the Managing Director of EPSL. EPSL is the local partner of Auerbach Grayson & Company, a New York based brokerage house with partners in 74 countries.
